The Bruker Daltonics Autoflex III smartbeam is a MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation – Time-Of-Flight) mass spectrometer equipped with a Nd:YAG-laser (355 nm), providing a repetition rate of 200 Hz. It can be used for the identification of small molecules and also for large biomolecules such as peptides, proteins and oligonucleotides of synthetic or biological origin.
Run in positive as well as in negative ion mode, the mass analyzer can be set either in linear or in reflectron mode, the latter yielding a resolution of up to 20’000.
By means of the LIFT TM technology the instrument is also capable of tandem MS (MS/MS). The application of MALDI imaging is a convenient tool for the detection of biomarkers in tissue sections.
